Artistic Statement
As a woman of African descent and Latin heritage, I’ve learned how the knowledge of tradition is wealth passed down through generations. The tradition of art through dance is a weapon of empowerment. I am determined to create movement-based experiences for people to encounter freedom, healing, and answers. Through the work, I desire to create choreographic pieces that go beyond entertainment but cause an internal awakening or questioning within those who witness the work. By developing my artistry, infused with various cultural movements and most importantly rooted in the conviction of my faith, I hope to dance and create work not just displaying the human condition but rather questioning the image of our humanity image in the hope of planting a seed of truth and light.
Choreography
T’Ana’s choreographic works are diverse in movement and techniques. At the core of T'Ana's artistic expression lies a strong foundation in ballet, modern, and jazz techniques. These codified forms provide her with a structured framework through which she can explore and express her creativity. Her unique choreographic style is birthed by the fusion of the deep-seated social rhythms from her Black American cultural upbringing interwoven with the traditional movements of her Colombian heritage. Through her work, she delves into the intricate complexities of her identity as a creator in the image of The Creator.
